Sorry for the lack of posting. Easter holidays and of course i’ve been working like a madman to finish the Atompunk Opera. Which….
DOWN TO THE LAST SONG!!!
And considering the last song is an epilogue song, boom! This is almost in the bag. (I do not feel i’m giving anything away by telling you the last song is an epilogue song. Every opera before this ends with an epilogue song and i’m not breaking tradition now. If there’s one thing you can count on, there’s an overture, a new albion song and an epilogue song.)
So what happens now?
I do a lot of correcting as i go. I edit and correct songs while i’m working on the ones following it, and after each act i correct songs in the acts proceeding the one i’m working on. By the time i’ve finished, like almost now, there have been waves and waves of edits. However, after this point i have to go back and do MORE edits. Edits can mean simple mixing, redoing or replacing an instrument line, rewriting a lyric (LOTS adat) or changing a vocal melody. All songs have vocals, but they’re all sung by me as scratch tracks to show what the real vocalists will be singing.
After this i send the album to 3 people, 2 trusted ones and a wild card (don’t tell Thomas Delphi he’s this opera’s wild card prooflistener). They need to listen to it a few times and make sure i’m not overlooking something. I’m mostly concerned with story elements, is the story getting across or am i missing a really good opportunity, but music flaws should be pointed out too. It’s slightly difficult since one voice is singing all 4 parts and sometimes an octave down (for a female part i can’t humanly hit). Many female parts just sound plain bad with my singing, but you have to use your imagination and picture Lauren or Kayleigh.
Then i type up lead sheets and hopefully sometime in late June go to London and record the vocalists. (Although now that Lauren and Oliver have a really good recording setup, i might just have them record and send me stuff. Kayleigh could also go to Lauren’s… not sure about this option, but considering it.)
The album will be out in July and as said before, i will initially release each of the Acts separately, one week apart. When the last act comes out i will release the entire album as a whole.
There is no doubt at all in my mind that this opera stands proudly with the other ones. It is well worthy of being the closeout of the trilogy.
So there you go. One epilogue to go…
