A staple of Burning Man for several years now, the infamous and awesome Neverwas Haul is… well, what it looks like. A 2 floor victorian house on wheels.
The Neverwas Haul was built in 2006 by Major Catastrophe (Shannon O’Hare) and a crew of 12 working for about 6 months. “After building the Clocktower in ’05, we were sitting in camp at Burning Man talking about our adventure so far. I thought how much we looked like some explorer’s club from some Victorian sci-fi, then I went further and drew the first Neverwas Haul concept sketch of an explorer’s club that really explores. I also got inspired by the book Snowcrash – there is a brief note about a Victorian house on tank treads in it.”
It’s made from 75% recycled materials.
.Shannon O’Hare, the project designer and builder of the Neverwas Haul, has been designing and building themed-park structures around the country for 25 years, for a variety of Renaissance Faires from Ohio to California. He lives in Vallejo, CA and runs his own art and home remodeling business.
The Neverwas Haul continues to attend Burning Man as well as numerous festivals and happenings around California.
