Come. Listen to something awesome.
The beat era produced numerous interesting spoken word oddities. Some of my favorite little bits are by the wonderful Ken Nordine.
Ken Nordine did a lot of voiceovers from the 40s through the 60s and as you’ll hear his voice is perfect for commercials and movie trailers of the time. However at the height of the 50s beat era he recorded a series of albums of these wonderful little spoken word jems. His style he termed Word Jazz, although it’s less poetry and more brilliant little off kilter stories.
We shall feature two of them today. We’ll start with the very short and sweet Yellow.

And follow it with the utterly awesome Flibberty Jib. I should also mention as a very interesting tidbit that he was Linda Blair’s vocal coach in The Exorcist.
