Listen To The Dieselpunk Radio Hour Act 1 Demo

Here is the demo for the 1st act of The Dieselpunk Opera.

Dieselpunk, for those of you unfamiliar, is a fantastical take on the aesthetics from the period of WWI to WWII.

As it follows chronologically after Steampunk so does this opera follow New Albion after the end of the Steampunk Opera.

There are two characters singing (3 of you include a very brief recording of a girl): The Announcer and John O’Brien. It being a demo, the composer is singing all the parts but you should be able to figure out which part is which fairly easily.

Since this is a demo it will only be online for 5 days. After this i will take it down. It’s not meant for general consumption.

This is the first of 3 Acts.

(Edit: It’s just past 5 days but i have received several emails asking very nicely that i please leave this up for just a little longer. While i will take it down eventually, why on earth would i want to refuse kind people who actually want to listen to my music? As for those of you who actually liked it enough to buy it, knowing it;s not the final version, i love you want to marry you all.)

  1. Thank you Paul, for this amazing music! If it is still up tomorrow I will buy the demo album as it is too amazing to take down just like that. The New Albion tracks are always my favourites, they’re all very fast and upbeat. Any idea when the real thing will be finished?

    1. Unfortunately there is no way i will be able to start the 2nd Act until late winter. I’ll post Act demos as they get made, but it’ll be spring before all 3 Acts are finished.

  3. I’m so excited! A sequel to Dolls of New Albion, a Dieselpunk aesthetic…if the demo is going to be taken down in a bit how could we *not* buy this?

P.S. I only realized this was up on the 5th, if it had been taken down after 5 days I wouldn’t have caught it; thank you SO MUCH for keeping it up longer!

  5. Song 5 grabbed me by surprise and made me cry longer than I thought was possible.
I’m pretty sure the person who sent me this felt it as well, as we have similar backgrounds. It’s amazing how this song goes right into the someone’s core, effortlessly, and remains there for a long long time.
As usual, this is great, emotional, involving, and I can’t wait to get more of this. Are there any lyrics by any chance?

    1. You know, a lot of people have commented on various songs from this 1st Act, but you’re the first to mention this song, which is hands down my personal favorites. Of course, like you, this touches on issues quite deep and personal.

  7. This is just amazing! And to think that this is only a demo! I cannot wait to see what you do with the rest of the album, continuing the amazing story of New Albion.

  9. God damn this is awesome.
Love the new transition in the overture, love the familiar but different New Albion 5, love the way it SWINGS, love the melancholy late night jazz club feel of In The Pale Room.
“The flesh I’ve left rots and falls from my bones” is a brilliant line. It’s a song that should be sung by Tom Waits.

  11. I love it! Especially that advertisement for cigarettes. 🙂 Also, I really feel like the contrast between the upbeat and the sorrowful shows the propaganda versus reality really well.It definitely had the perfect vibe for dieselpunk.
