Heilung: Medieval Norse Folk Music

For 4 months straight i listened to nothing but 60s and early 70s jazz (McCoy Tyner, Alice Coltrane, and Joe Henderson will now be lifelong love affairs). Then i switched to psy-trance (really like Mothership Loudspeakerz) but this week my jam is Norse folk music.

They use authentic instruments: everything is something that would be available in the Viking Age. The lyrics are taken from ancient Viking and Iron Age texts, and their live show evokes a ritual.

There’s a whole movement of bands like these. Wardruna is another , as is Osi and the Jupiter. It’s a nice rabbit hole to fall down and i thought i’d share.
