I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is, if you like The Fallen and Shadows & Flames and 60s psychedelic albums, you’re going to LOVE the New Albion hippiepunk album. We’re going all out on this baby. Like Katy Shaw, it’s a stand alone story in the early days of Atompunk when Arcadia Corp is gearing up to its full potential. The musical focus is 60s psychedelic rock, folk, underground and pop. I’ve been listening to tons if it for a few days now and i’m having a blast like you can’t believe. In my travels i have found some utterly spellbinding gems that i wish to share with you. The bad news is… um, if you hate The Fallen and Shadows & Flames and 60s psychedelic rock albums you’re probably not going to like what i’m about to make. Regardless, here are some wonders i’ve stumbled across:
Aphrodite’s Child – 666
This tops them all. It’s SO FREAKIN GOOD. I am ashamed that i knew nothing of it before last night. It’s technically released in 1972, but let’s not nitpick, the 60s are here in full dressing. Make no mistake, this is a masterpiece album. Lots of great instrument choices, different moods and textures, and still containing that delicious time period mood that i’m looking to drink in. This is probably my favorite that i’ve discovered yet.
Poppies: Assorted Finery From the First Psychedelic Age
Yeah, it’s a compilation album. Which is great, since i’m looking to drink in music across the range. It specializes in a trippy touch. I am quite enamored with this.
West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band – A Child’s Guide To Good And Evil
Gorgeous with turns of darkness. Lots of psychedelic sound effects. This is the brain child of Bob Markley who drove the band into territory with the same passion and vision as Brian Wilson or Syd Barrett.
The Electric Prunes – The Electric Prunes
“Incorporating psychedelia and elements of embryonic electronic rock, the band’s sound was marked by innovative recording techniques with fuzz-toned guitars and oscillating sound effects. In addition, guitarist Ken Williams’ and singer James Lowe’s concept of “free-form garage music” provided the band with a richer sonic palette and exploratory lyrical structure than many of their contemporaries” This is fun, catchy and very good for getting a feel of the era.

The Zombies – Odessey and Oracle
Another fun, catchy period piece that never the less is rock solid by any era’s definition.
The United States Of America – The United States Of America
This is some serious creativity going on. Daring, exploratory, and adventurous, this thing is damn impressive. Apparently, the leader Joe Byrd’s aims for the band and album were to have an avant-garde political/musical rock group with the idea of combining electronic sound (not electronic music), musical/political radicalism and performance art.
Bonus:
I’m going to also include two modern 60s throwback bands and albums, because they’re just that good.
Go Mod Go! – Alright!
One of two modern 60s throwback bands, this one is well worth putting up here, because if you want to get your 60s party fired tf up, this is the baby you put on. This is about all the energy and those tasty 60s genre tropes. It’s not exactly psychedelic, it’s top notch, excellently done, full steam ahead 60s wild partying, but it’s fun and fantastic.
The Sonic Dawn – Into The Long Night
Love, i just love this. I heard it in my exploration and loved it immediately. It’s in the vein as all the classic gems mentioned about, a bit more modern but it’s such a bloody pleasant listen i have to throw it in.
