{"id":4899,"date":"2013-02-23T13:03:48","date_gmt":"2013-02-23T13:03:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/steampunkopera.wordpress.com\/?p=4899"},"modified":"2013-02-23T13:03:48","modified_gmt":"2013-02-23T13:03:48","slug":"carnation-lily-lily-rose-and-other-gorgeousness-from-sargent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paulshapera.com\/temp\/carnation-lily-lily-rose-and-other-gorgeousness-from-sargent\/","title":{"rendered":"Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose and Other Gorgeousness From Sargent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is one of my favorite paintings.<\/p>\n<p>I discovered it whilst perusing the Tate in London during one of the recording sessions for the Steampunk Opera. it is by John Sargent who we shall feature today.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4900\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4900\" style=\"width: 531px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/steampunkopera.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/02\/sar1.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4900\" alt=\"Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose by John Sargent\" src=\"http:\/\/steampunkopera.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/02\/sar1.jpg?resize=531%2C600\" width=\"531\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4900\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose by John Sargent<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Painted in 1886, this painting took a year to paint since Sargent was determined to capture the exact light of just after dusk and thus could only paint for 20 minutes a day. He had two girls as models and would set up the exact scene every day, paint for 20 minutes when the light was just right, then fold it up and resume the following day.<\/p>\n<p>The name, Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose is after a hit song from 1885.<\/p>\n<p>Sargent became the most celebrated portrait painter of his day, but since i don&#8217;t like portrait paintings, i&#8217;m not going to feature them here. TONS of portraits. He does have some nice impressionist work from that decade, but you can look that up your own.
