A past that never was.<\/p>\n<p>After WWI? It&#8217;s all dieselpunk, baby.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/5\/59\/Diesel_Forces.jpg\/475px-Diesel_Forces.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"475\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dieselpunk is technically the period from 1920 until the end of WWII. You know, a retro future past.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/flyingfortress.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/06\/office02.jpg?resize=640%2C313\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"313\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Most of this blog is indeed about Dieselpunk era affairs, and most of the Steampunk Opera is Dieselpunk oriented: darker, more urban and industrial aesthetics.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_hVOW2U7K4-M\/STdnVM_Uo6I\/AAAAAAAAuEI\/onwU7XkyBzU\/35645654t6ertegf.jpg?resize=498%2C640\" alt=\"\" width=\"498\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Steampunk is hopeful and fun, Diesepunk has a tendency to be more intense, and either more twisted and psychologically murky, or contrarily, borrowing heavily from a pulp era aesthetic, art deco, WWII, 1940s era bombasticness.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 613px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/media.battlestarwiki.org\/images\/d\/df\/Caprica_City.png?resize=613%2C344\" alt=\"\" width=\"613\" height=\"344\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">dieslpunk<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>So Dieselpunk works can be stuff like Dark City for\u00a0the\u00a0dark,<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/steampunkopera.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/darkcity.jpeg?w=300&#038;resize=640%2C512\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>or Sky Captain of Tomorrow for the light.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh6.google.ca\/abramsv\/R84_unH54DI\/AAAAAAAAKsA\/yDsicGc-evA\/s640\/sdfadsfafgfvcx.jpg?resize=512%2C341\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"341\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Return To Castle Wolfenstein, the amazing movies Delicatessen or City of Lost Children.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/366weirdmovies.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/city_of_lost_children.jpg?resize=450%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Eraserhead? Atomic era, space race type stuff.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.boingboing.net\/marslivingisthelifeforme.jpg?resize=600%2C382\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"382\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Many times a future gone post apocalyptic. Nuclear war and red scare taken to extremes. \u00a0The Fallout video game series is exactly what we&#8217;re talking about here.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ve3dmedia.ign.com\/images\/07\/22\/72211_FalloutNewVegas-Artwork-04_normal.jpg?resize=640%2C380\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"380\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Art deco design factors in to Atompunk&#8217;s aesthetics.
