It features 5 characters: Brija, the Daughter, Danijela, the Mother, Bogdan, the Father, The Vizier and a small appearance by the Black Monk. There are numerous Balkan themes and allusions woven into the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button aligncenter\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/mochalab.bandcamp.com\/album\/janissary-a-balkan-rock-opera\">LISTEN NOW<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The practice of the Ottomans randomly taking Balkan children from their homes and raising them far away to become Janissary soldiers was called Devshirme, the blood tax.
